Mikkapedia’s “RGB” collection comprises the video work from his first physical solo show, a site-specific installation where each work was displayed through hologram fans. 

RGB (red, green, blue) is the colour model used to display images on all electronic systems. The colours when combined can obtain any colour in the visible spectrum. 

The “RGB” collection is a deconstruction of our digital perception, it is looking at digital art in the most foundational sense through the building blocks of colour. 

The artist wants to encourage discussion about how we will consume digital media in the future. Using digital media, animation, colour, and perception intertwined with the technology of the holographic fans Mikkapedia gives the viewer a means of consuming our digital reality, a new way of viewing RGB. Beyond this, as the fans themselves are in motion the artworks all have an underlying theme of perpetual movement.


ORB #1 is part of a series of four orbs that were inspired by and created for the physical exhibition space. After viewing the space, I drew upon reference images of the Nutopia Cyberlounge. It was a well-known space digital innovator used in London during the dot-com boom to launch digital technologies and experiences (1999-2003). The space was designed to stimulate creative thought with its mix of architectural lighting and ambient sound. I wanted to create the same immersive feeling in the exhibition space. 

As it's a fully mirrored space, it allowed me to emphasise the capacity of the holographic fans in conveying the illusion of depth and dimension. I created each 3-dimensional animated orb in colours that spoke pleasing to view in the space.

Orb #1

Orb #4

RED is the first iteration of a three-part series exploring Red Green and Blue (RGB) as a theme, with each generative painting representing one of the colours in a literal sense. It’s the deconstruction of our digital perception, as it is the colour model used to display images in electronic systems. As with the rest of the collection, the generative artworks have an underlying theme of movement, where a stylus is used as a paintbrush to define a set of geometric algorithms. As the algorithms accumulate the original marks are lost and the artwork takes on its own direction, continuously layering upon itself until the canvas is totally saturated.

GREEN is the second iteration of a three-part series exploring Red Green and Blue (RGB) as a theme, with each generative painting representing one of the colours in a literal sense. BLUE

This artwork draws upon one of my earlier experimentation phases with the Kinect camera in 2015. During this period of my life I discovered that the Kinect camera also had a depth sensor, and you could use different programs such as Touch Designer to creatively code & visualise what the depth sensor sees. 

This was the sole reason why I taught myself how to use Touch Designer.  I've been experimenting with it ever since and the programming used in this artwork represents the furthest I've come with the capturing of depth with the Kinect camera. I programmed object tracking spheres that constantly oscillate on an x & y axis, adding additional motion beyond the movement of the figure in the voided space.

I used the depth sensor from the Kinect camera to record Rhys Kosakowski dancing in my room. I met Rhys at a party, and I admired the way he moved his body so effortlessly, I decided at that point, nearly a year ago, that I wanted to use him for this project.
