This work uses generative live animation software to explore the pulsing data of the natural world and reinterpret it into a breathing 3D landscape. Through analysing the luma key values of ocean waves mixed with tidal data converted into LFO waves I was able to extrude the 3D depth of water so that it becomes almost human, twitching and pulsing as if trying to connect emotionally.
The solarized treatment of the palette then enhances the variation between light and shadow. This interactive system was used to create the potential for live audience interaction of the original installation 'Ripple', where instead of manipulating itself, it displaces the human portrait. The placebo of seeing ourselves melded with water aims to elicit empathy for water and create a deeper emotional connection to ourselves and our environment.
