Shan Jiang

“Invisible Cities I” includes six unique artworks specially edited for this collection. The six images represent six memories of the places I've visited: 'Rider and Horse' - The Night Museum, 'Owl' - The English Country, 'Swan' - The Ally Pally, 'Zodiac' - The Space, 'Skull' - The Eden Garden and 'Tiger' - Kyoto Street Party.



Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. If Hokusai and Ukiyo-e represent Edo, or Tokyo, Ito Jakuchu and Nihonga represent Kyoto. Inspired by my trips to Kyoto and Ito Jakuchu's works, I drew my view of the city.

Tiger - Kyoto Street Party

Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. Eden Garden is the symbol of the birthplace of humans. There is an "Eden Garden" in every myth in every culture. It is a place we left behind, but we all want to return in our subconscious. I think that everyone has once dreamed about that place where we hid all the secrets of ourselves.

Skull - The Eden Garden

Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. A lot of people say that their dream is going to space. We are in the space, everyone. The earth is a magnificent spaceship travelling in space. We don't stick in the same place, just rotating around the sun endlessly. We are moving alongside the sun and flying in the Milky Way. And our galaxy is also moving in the universe and flying towards our neighbour galaxy Andromeda. During the trip, if we don't forget about looking at the outside, we will see all the new stars and spectacles.

Zodiac - The Space

Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. Playgrounds, parks, ponds, pedal boats and ice rinks. These are the places that I frequently visited with my two little kids. The memory is bright and colourful, full of joy.

Swan - The Ally Pally

Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. The artwork was inspired by natural history museums all over the world. Natural history museums are a must-go place when visiting a city. I feel that a natural history museum can somehow represent the city's personality. The image mixes my memories of London, Berlin and Shanghai's museums.

Rider and Horse - The Night Museum

Drawn in pen and coloured in digital. The trips to the English countryside inspired this artwork. The summer's stormy weather, the overcast winter sky, and the fairies, folklores and animals in the woods formed my memory of the landscapes of the English countryside.
