Pan and The Dream
(USA-NY) PAN presents images and words that show how art, beauty and dress can combine to provide new vistas, at a moment in history when utopias seem more necessary than ever. There are times when we must turn to inner worlds for sustenance. We can escape into lush visions and toy with the uncanny through its pages, transported by a series of commissioned [and curated] pieces that explore various topics through visual fantasy. The Emperor's New Clothes, La Belle et La Bête, Trip to the Moon, Ghost Stories, Supernatural — each volume has created a dreamscape that hovers between real, unreal and surreal, weaving narratives of style and art, and bringing together writers and artists who use each theme as a prompt to consider tensions between what we see and how we feel. Pan constructs a visual world to comfort, tantalise and challenge. Pan is released yearly as a luxuriously printed limited and numbered edition, making it highly collectible. The first edition was released in 2017. All editions of PAN are collected by the following institutions and are part of their libraries' permanent collections:George Eastman Museum, Rochester, NY, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, Palm Springs Photo Festival, CA, The Art Institute of Chicago, IL, The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY and The Royal Library, Copenhagen.
